JOBCARE WORKBOOK
(An overview of the content)
As part of your job search this comprehensive workbook will become
useful reference point for now and into the future. The content is
divided into several sections dealing with the following main topics:
How you feel about yourself now
this is important because your own self-image comes through in an interview.
If you are positive and know what you want you are far more likely to
gain the employer’s interest.
Who are you?
This section deals with your interests, skills and personality style.
During this time of unemployment, it is wise to take stock of where you
are with your career, thinking about the types of jobs you have done
in the past, your likes and dislikes and what you hope for in the future.
In the workbook you will be directed to an on-line self-assessment tool
that will indicate your personality style. Understanding your personality
helps in considering future job opportunities. This leads to the next
section
Goal Setting
We all know about goal setting, but how many of us take the time to
really work out a plan and follow it up with action. Dreaming about
a job is one thing, developing a well thought out action plan is another.
Use the action plans in the workbook to describe your future and how
you will get there.
Where do you fit in
If you think about it most jobs fit into one of 12 different human
needs. For example home and shelter is an age old human need and many
different jobs have sprung up out of this basic need. The same with
food, clothing, education, money etc. P.26 to 30 gives some interesting
examples of occupations. You can then go to the Internet (see p.76)
and research the jobs that interest you.
Balancing your work/life
We often overlook certain aspects of our lives at the expense of others.
Work at times dominates how we live. It is therefore important to maintain
a balance and the exercises in the workbook will give you a reality
check of your current situation
Your Resume
Nowadays it is virtually impossible to secure a job without a well
thought out resume. A resume is simply a story about you and your work
history up to this point in time. It needs to be personal and not a
boring duty statement. Remember to include your achievements. There
are plenty of examples of resumes and covering letters in the workbook
for you to develop your own impressive resume. We are always here to
help you with this important part of your job search.
Attending the Interview
This is perhaps the most important part of your job search and often
times where all the hard work comes undone. We give essential tips to
improve interview skills and list many of the generic questions you
